May 18th
Thursday, May 18th. Overcast with rain.
Today, our third grade class is holding a ten-year-old growth ceremony. I wore the traditional Chinese costume that we all bought to school today.
After finishing our second period math class, maybe because we needed to prepare the classroom, our teacher, Teacher Jiang, asked us to bring our English textbooks to the art room for class.
After lunch, we went back to the art room and worked on our homework there, then lined up and went to the auditorium.
When we got to the auditorium, it was full of people - students, parents, and teachers. We sat in the back rows.
Two hosts, a boy and a girl, walked out from behind the curtain and gave a speech. Then, Principal Xu also gave a speech. After he finished, all the students recited a section of "Young China Speaks". Afterwards, each class from three (1) to three (6) went on stage in order and performed. Our performance was a song and dance called "Listen to Me, Thank You". There were five lead singers and six dancers. When the music started, we sang along with it. Our voices were loud and echoed throughout the auditorium.
After leaving the auditorium, we went back to our own classroom. Our parents took lots of pictures of us there. They also brought cake, oranges, bananas, and coke to share with everyone. My mom was also in the classroom. Teacher Jiang also gave us each a small present - a manual fan, a candy, and a drink. We ate and drank a lot in the classroom.
Today, I didn't go home with my grandpa like usual, but instead went home with my mom. Before we left the classroom, we also took some balloons home. Most of my classmates also took balloons home.
Today was a happy day and a memorable one.
