Retrospection Garden in Tongli
Retrospection Garden is located at No.234, Xintian Street, Gulin Area, Tongli Town, Wujiang District, Suzhou City, Jiangsu Province, China. It was built during the Qing Dynasty, from the 11th to the 13th year of Guangxu's reign (1885-1887), by Ren Lansheng after he retired from officialdom and returned to his hometown. The name of the garden comes from the meaning of the words "Lin Fu thinks of serving the lord, dedicating himself to loyalty, and making up for mistakes in retrospect" in Zuo Zhuan. However, don't think that Retrospection Garden has any great purpose - it was simply built for a peaceful retirement.
Although Retrospection Garden is small, but as the saying goes, "although sparrows are small, they have all five internal organs." "Three plants, three treasures, and three delicacies," pavilions, towers, buildings, corridors, arches, bridges, pavilions, halls, rooms, and verandas are all available. The architectural layout breaks through the conventional vertical direction and changes it to a horizontal one. From west to east, the west is the residence, the middle is the courtyard, and the east is the garden. In Retrospection Garden, the boisterous Hongyi Ferry Boat is full of vitality. This is a classical garden outside the ancient city of Suzhou that has been selected as a World Cultural Heritage Site. Retrospection Garden has also been used as a filming location for many TV dramas. It must be said three times that you must visit Retrospection Garden when you come to Tongli!
In June 2001, Retrospection Garden was listed as the fifth batch of key cultural relics protection units by the State Council. Here, we must protect cultural relics well, as they are the heritage left to us by our ancestors.
